ProSeal

Braces protected by ProSeal applied at Naborowski Orthodontics in Addison, ILBraces are an incredibly effective treatment for correcting tooth alignment. However, one of the biggest concerns when it comes to braces is keeping them, and your teeth, clean. Braces can make oral hygiene more difficult, which can result in oral health concerns, as well as concerns about the appearance of your teeth. Naborowski Orthodontics can help to protect your teeth during orthodontic treatment with ProSeal.

Braces Concerns

While braces are an incredibly effective treatment for correcting the alignment of your teeth and jaws, they do have a few drawbacks. One of these drawbacks is that they are difficult to clean around. Cleaning around brackets and wires can be tedious. There may also be places that you can miss, which allows plaque and bacteria to accumulate. This can lead to several issues.

One of these issues is that your teeth are at greater risk for developing decay and cavities. Having to treat these issues can delay orthodontic treatment. Poor oral hygiene can also lead to decalcification or tiny white scars on your teeth. These white spots cannot be removed and may stand out against the rest of your teeth, causing aesthetic concerns.

What is ProSeal?

ProSeal is often referred to as a coat of armor for your teeth. It is a sealant application that is applied to the teeth before the placement of braces. It has been in use since 2006 as a way to protect the teeth from decalcification and staining during your orthodontic treatment. It can be especially effective for younger braces patients, who may struggle with oral hygiene.

Treatment with ProSeal is fairly simple and straightforward. Before applying braces, the teeth are coated with ProSeal. The sealant material is then cured. ProSeal contains fluoride, which helps to keep your teeth strong during your orthodontic treatment, while also protecting the enamel from decalcification and stains. The sealant is also resistant to toothbrush abrasion. Once your orthodontic treatment is complete, the ProSeal treatment is then removed from your teeth.

Protecting Your Oral Health with Braces

While ProSeal is an effective treatment for reducing your risk for decalcification, discoloration, and other issues during orthodontic treatment, it is no substitute for maintaining good oral hygiene practices. Even while wearing your braces, it is essential that you brush your teeth at least twice daily, although brushing after every meal is also recommended. When you brush, be sure to angle your toothbrush against your brackets and clean carefully around them. You should also take care to brush under your wires. In addition to brushing, you should also continue to floss at least once a day. Floss threaders can be helpful in getting the floss under your wires. Floss between each tooth and around each bracket. Do not forget to floss behind your very back teeth.

In addition to taking care of your mouth at home, it is also important that you continue to have your teeth professionally cleaned and examined at least twice a year. Even though you have regular orthodontic visits, your routine dental visits should not be neglected.

ProSeal provides your teeth with an effective coat of armor, helping you to prevent issues such as cavities and decalcification. For more information, and to find out if ProSeal is right for you, call Naborowski Orthodontics at (630) 543-5051 today.
